Flash, specifcally mobile Flash, was effectively sentenced to death a while back. The first inklings came when Abode put out their own non-Flash media tool “Edge,” and then was confirmed when the company dropped 750 employees and halted all development of mobile versions of Flash, ostensibly forever. It’s not until now, however, that we’re seeing Flash really start to crumble. Android, once open to the protocol, will no longer be supporting Adobe Flash with its newest version, Jelly Bean. E3 2012: Assassin’s Creed: Liberation will Feature First Female Protagonist | 404.org...

Assassin’s Creed: Liberation takes place in New Orleans during the Louisiana Rebellion, at the same period of time as the new main title. It doesn’t link to Desmond’s story, but it will link to Connor’s, as apparently he will be making an appearance in the game. Like Connor, the new character is also of two races — this time African American and caucasian. Her name is Aveline, and as you can see from the trailer, she kicks butt, and actually isn’t overly sexualized (although I guess for the time period, her running around in trousers would have been pretty scandalous). Hurray for awesome women of colour in video games! I mean, obviously that is a Big Deal. There’s also lots of incentives for purchasing the two games together (III and Liberation are both being released on the same day, October 30th): exclusive downloadable content for both games, including character skins, multiplayer characters, a free upgrade on all ammunition pouches, and Aveline will be able to use Connor’s tomahawk. E3 2012: Assassin’s Creed: Liberation will Feature First Female Protagonist | 404.org. Soo excited! It’s kinda lame when people complain about not being represented in various forms of media, but it is a gripe for chicks! But now! Now not only is Aveline not hyper sexualized for once, but she’s also Black! And Creole! Just like me!!! AWESOME!!! But boo for being on Vita…...

China, no friend of the Internet to begin with, is now entertaining provisions that would further restrict free Internet use in the country by making online anonymity virtually impossible. The proposed changes involve updating the country’s “Methods for Governance of Internet Information Services” such that the definition of “Internet information service providers” includes forums and blogs of all kinds. Effectively, this outlaws the use of pseudonyms by forum users or bloggers. China Moving To Force All Bloggers To Use Real Names |...

What is CISPA? CISPA is short for the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (H.R. 3523). U.S Reps. Mike J. Rogers (R-Mich.) and C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) introduced the bill in the House in November. The bill is designed to bolster cybersecurity by enabling better information sharing between Internet companies and the government. An amended version of the bill passed the House by a 248-168 vote Thursday. What sort of information sharing? CISPA would allow Internet companies, such as Internet service providers, to monitor their networks and to collect, analyze and share information on any user activities that they believe present a threat to their networks. The law would allow companies to share any information “pertaining to the protection” of their networks with the National Security Agency and other federal agencies. In return, federal agencies would share both classified and unclassified cyberthreat information in their possession to help Internet companies bolster their defenses against cyberthreats… FAQ: What you need to know about CISPA –...
